Jumping Higher Faster - How Important Are Your Calves?

The purpose of this article is to answer the question that many athletes have about jumping higher, which is how important are my calves when it comes to jump training. Well consider this, did the slam dunk champion have extremely large calves? Not really. In great shape, yes but not huge in comparison to body builders.

So What Makes People Jump So High?

Well there's a number of different things. For example age, weight, training and genes. But the most important reason is because of the fast twitch muscle fibers in comparison to the slow twitch muscle fibers. Athletes that jump higher than others tend to have more fast twitch muscle fibers than those that don't jump as high.

So it's not just the calves that makes the man or woman for that matter leap higher.
Exercises that involve explosive movements are great for increasing your vertical leap and for training fast twitch muscles. You can train you're calves with these types of exercises to help you jump higher.

Although you can train your calves with explosive exercises to jump higher they only amount to a small percentage of power that your body uses to jump. If you do not have a total body workout routine including upper and lower body then your competition will leave you in the dust.

Your jump training is only as full proof as you make it. If you want to ensure maximum results then don't forget pay attention to detail. It's makes all the difference.
